Crunch-Bang is a light version of Ubuntu, so while you wind up with a light distro, the nice thing is that you have access to the Ubuntu repositories and will be able to do the "sudo apt-get install" thing. As to puppy 4.31, I had some odd intermittant errors and went back to a version called "macpup" which is based on 4.2X. It's a bit slower, but seems to be more solid. Macpup is interesting, comes with the JWM and the Enlightenment e17 window managers.

Crunch Bang. Never heard of that one. Will check it out.
Currently evaluating Puppy 4.3.1 in VirtualBox as a candidate to replace Debian Etch on the old Thinkpad. Puppy, so far, has been the lightest, most full-featured, ready out-of-the-box, easy to use distro I've come across.
