All,
Is anyone familiar with this information regarding "OAL"? Sounds interesting, but I have never heard of it.

Subject: Observer's Challenge - thanks!
Hi Roger,
I heard your talk yesterday at Tri-Star and was intrigued with the Observer's Challenge. I belong to the Raleigh Astronomy Club and I plan to post to the mailing list about it. There are many visual observers that I think will be interested.
While I'm not sure that my suggestion below would benefit the Observer's Challenge program, I'll offer it in case it does. I am involved with an international effort to produce a standard file format for exchanging observations. It is called OpenAstronomyLog (OAL) and it is supported by several software applications, including some free ones. You can read about it here: http://groups.google.com/group/openastronomylog
I would especially point out the web application http://www.deepskylog.org/ . It has thousands of observations stored, and they are available for observers to examine. Note that DeepSkyLog doesn't provide an observing list like the Observer's Challenge, but it is an additional resource that can be accessed by observers who are working on the Observer's Challenge.
I will be giving a talk at the Raleigh Astronomy Club about OpenAstronomyLog on March 26. You are quite welcome to join us. Otherwise, if you have any questions about , I'd be happy to try to answer.
Thanks for sharing this with us at Tri-Star,
- Phyllis
