All,
I have been in Las Vegas since Wednesday. While Rob was broadcasting with his Mallincam I walked outside to see the actual sky conditions. I was very surprised. The Orion Nebula was visible naked eye as well as M-41. All of the Auriga clusters would have been nice in a small scope...as well as too many other deep-sky to list.
Overhead limiting naked eye magnitude was approximately 4.3, but this covered only a small strip of sky from 5° south of Rigel to 5° north of Auriga. Polaris was easily visiblelv as well as all of the major stars in Cassiopeia. The small strip was approximately two hours east of the meridian. The N sky was very poor as well as the west as the light beam from the Luxor Hotel was shinning right through M-31...so as you can imagine the NE is extremely poor.
I could do a pretty good job from my son's and daughter-in-law's backyard. Brad and Lauren's house is located in southeast LV only a couple of miles from Henderson. Again I was amazed. They live on a private street and there are no utility lights.
Just off Pecos, they live on Pama Lane. Spent the entire day hiking with my granddaughter in the desert at Redrock.
