The high thin clouds were my nemeses that night. I did discover a couple of=

Still had a great time though.
All=2C
&nbsp=3B
Fred=2C enjoyed reading your report.&nbsp=3BI am glad=
that you and several others were able to get an&nbsp=3Bobserving session i=
n.
&nbsp=3B
Went out at 9:30&nbsp=3B(EST). I wanted to allow&nbsp=3BN=
GC-2903&nbsp=3Band the M-105 group to&nbsp=3Bget a bit higher in the sky. I=
was out till almost 1:00 AM=2C and spent every minute on these pbjects onl=
y. The temperature at that time was 20=B0=2C but I was dressed warmly and d=
id not get cold at all...including my fingers and feet.&nbsp=3BI observed w=
ith my 10-inch reflector.
&nbsp=3B
Transparency was not good=2C and =
the reflection of ambient lighting on the snow&nbsp=3Bfor sure had a negati=
ve impact. I could not see all of the stars in the little dipper. My estima=
ted&nbsp=3Bnaked eye limiting magnitude was for sure less than&nbsp=3B5=2C =
possibly 4.5. However=2C I was able to do a decent job with my notes and sk=
etches.&nbsp=3B
&nbsp=3B
NGC-3389 proved to be difficult=2C due to&nb=
sp=3Bthe transparency=2C normally it is very easy=2C but for most part alwa=
ys lacks detail. I could glimpse&nbsp=3Bit using&nbsp=3Baverted vision only=
=2C and could not hold it constantly. There is some forecast for some more =
freezing weather tonight and&nbsp=3Bduring the morning=2C but it is suppose=
to be over pretty fast. the rest of the week might allow for me to have a =
couple more observing sessions this week.
&nbsp=3B
If possible I wou=
ld like to take my 4-inch refractor to a dark site and observe the February=
objects again. This would present an interesting comparison. It is very po=
ssible that I may be able to see more fine details with my 4-inch at&nbsp=
=3Ba dark site=2C than my 10-inch from my backyard.&nbsp=3BThis of course i=
t contingent&nbsp=3Bupon the sky conditions.
&nbsp=3B
Roger
&nbsp=

Rob=2C
&nbsp=3B
Well=2C my group for Redstone called off so I went to=
meet you guys at Valley of Fire. However=2C when I got to the&nbsp=3Bvisit=
or's center=2C they knew nothing about it.&nbsp=3BThey unlocked the restroo=
ms for me and left. Elena and her husband showed up and we&nbsp=3Bthought m=
aybe you'd got stuck in that truck wreck on I-15 just before Racetrack road=
. With nobody else there=2C and since we drove all that way=2C we decided t=
wo were enough and set up&nbsp=3Bin the lower parking lot. Then our former&=
nbsp=3Bclub president (just before you) showed up with his 16" LightBridge.=
He said something about Campground 2 and went looking for it. A while&nbsp=
=3Blater he came back after a fruitless search so the three of us set up an=
d had a great time.
&nbsp=3B
I nailed maybe a dozen new objects and g=
ot both the February challenge and the supplemental.&nbsp=3BHowever=2C desp=
ite the eastern sky looking clear=2C it really wasn't. I guess that band&nb=
sp=3Bof high&nbsp=3Bclouds moved to the east and made the sky background gl=
ow really bad.&nbsp=3BThe only reason I was able to get the challenge objec=
ts was because they were so bright. I looked for a few other galaxies near =
them that were in the Mag 12 range and couldn't see a thing. However=2C the=
re were plenty of sucker holes in&nbsp=3Bthe garbage up there and I got som=
e killer views around&nbsp=3BOrion=2C Monoceros=2C Gemini=2C and Cancer. An=
d=2C speaking of Cancer=2C Mars looked great. I saw the dark markings of wh=
at I think was Olympus Mons=2C and watched as&nbsp=3Bit roated&nbsp=3Bthrou=
ghout the evening. I also could have sworn I saw two polar caps. I even had=
&nbsp=3Bthe&nbsp=3Bscope cranked up to 440X at one point and between blurs=
=2C caught a few details on the surface.
&nbsp=3B
It was funny that a=
t times=2C the sky was so pristine and the stars so sharp. Yet there were p=
lenty of spots were everything was dull and the background lit up like&nbsp=
=3BI was in town.
&nbsp=3B
Since my&nbsp=3Bbackup plan was done in a =
panic at the last minute=2C I never found the correct directions to where y=
ou guys set up. On the web site=2C the link at the side just goes to a remi=
nder page. Both Elena and&nbsp=3BI&nbsp=3Bcould have sworn you all said the=
visitor's center=2C so that is where we went. Good thing I didn't go looki=
ng for Campground #2&nbsp=3Bwhere the sign points to&nbsp=3B"Campgroud" whi=
ch would have taken us up the wrong&nbsp=3Broad. So=2C in my rush=2C I ende=
d up in the wrong place. Still=2C I had a great night.
&nbsp=3B
Elena=
left a bit before me and our former president did=2C but we gave up about =
9:45 as my paper Megastar charts were getting pretty soggy and I was gettin=
g dew on everything.
&nbsp=3B
Hope your all-nighter went well.
&nb=
