Rob,
Probably going to talk with Jim Dire and GWU administrators. Even though Jim is tentatively heading to Texas, he has has a lot of experience in observatory instruments, and Don has always respected his opinions.
Again, Jim was the one wanting to take the pristine 16-inch out of the dome in the first place, since most of his recent work at other Universities, including the Coast Guard Academy and Naval Academy, had been with Ritchey-Chrétien scopes. Again Harvard has several 16-inch RC scopes just like the one that GWU now has in the dome.
I remember talking with Jim Dire several years ago and him mentioning to me that he wanted to replace the 16-inch Meade with an RC scope with a Paramount mount or better.
As Steve Davis said yesterday the 16-inch LX-200 is a true heavy duty system, not to be confused with the smaller Meade scopes. It is a true research grade instrument with the brass Pitman gears and a host of other internals made for serious use.
Again, I plan on seeing Don this week.
Good luck, Roger

Roger,
I did receive an email from Don. He's not sure what they are going to do with the dismantled scope. He asked if he could get back to me.

Rob,
I could not get in touch with Dr. Olive today. Did he by chance send you an e-mail? Steve Davis could not get in touch with him either.
If he does not call me this weekend I will see him at our local coffee shop on Wednesday night.
