Shawn nothing will enhance your ability to image better than a well performing mount that is not overtaxed. I'm not familiar with the spec's on the mount in question but I would start there to determine whether the load you anticipate to be within the tolerances of your mount. A secondary guide scope is not the only method of accomplishing autoguiding. An off axis guider will allow you to guide by diverting a fraction of the light cone to a secondary aperture where the guide camera resides. I couldn't recommend this method as the first choice but only as a choice as it has its own set of challenges.. Many fine astrophotos have been accomplished using this method however.

Secondarily as you tax your mount nearing its maximum weight carrying capability, balance becomes a very critical component of the setup.
Best of luck,
Jim

Yeah, maybe I need to look into getting/making a light guide scope to hold me over for now. That was my hope, at least.

Shawn, your mount can and will handle that 80mm Imaging scope just fine. In order to get the maximum performance from the mount however, you will have to autoguide - im sure you know this already hence your post. Take a look at this site.
