Rob,

You sure did better staying in bed as the meteor shower was certainly lacking.

I am hopeful that you will be able to observe the Pegasus galaxy cluster this weekend. The weather does not look good for me as rain is in the forecast for Saturday.

roger

Roger,

I didn't make it out this morning. Didn't get in bed until late last night and for the prospects of only 15 to 30 an hour, it just wasn't worth it for me this time.

As for observing the Pegasus I cluster, I forgot my S&T last weekend, so I didn't give it a shot. I'm going back to Death Valley this weekend to help with a ROCKS event (Recreational Outdoor Campaign for Kids through Study), so after I'm finished with the kids and the moon goes down, I'll give it another shot.

Talk to you later.

Rob

All,

Did anyone get out early this morning? My wife Debbie and I went out and sat in the front yard from 5:30 till 6:00 and we counted twelve. It was 34° which was the warmest night that we have had in the past few.

I observed three hours with my 10-inch last night from the backyard.

Rob had mentioned in an e-mail that he was going to observe the Pegasus I galaxy cluster this past weekend from Death Valley, and Fred reported seeing most all of them, and a few extra's close by.

If you have your November S&T (P-61) close by... could see the following with unshielded streetlights in close proximity. They were pretty difficult and my notes are brief. I tried a low magnification but could only see the two brighter galaxies NGC-7619 and NGC-7626.

Using a 20mm UO Erfle and a 2x barlow for 114x with a 1/2° field...could see six more (not all in the same FOV). NGC-7608, 7611, 7615, 7617, 7623, 7631. Averted vision was required for all of the last six, and most very very difficult...due mostly in part to the observation site.

Not too bad for being set up on my deck, only three foot from my back door. If not for using the picture in the S&T it would have been doubtful on some of them.

I am hopeful that I can observe this group again next month from a dark site.
