The Physics and Astronomy Department and the Nevada Space Grant are pleased
to announce a public lecture by Professor Roger Blandford, Stanford
University, entitled, "Black Holes: End of Time or a New Beginning," at 7:30
p.m., in the Bigelow Physics Building (BPB) on Oct. 22.
Black holes are popularly associated with death and extermination. However,
astrophysicists see them as creators not destroyers. This talk will
summarize the reasons why we think that black holes can exist, should exist,
and actually do exist. The speaker, an authority on the topic, will also
describe some of the strange properties and the environmental impact black
holes offer the universe at large.
This talk is intended for a general audience including enthusiasts of all
backgrounds and ages.
Celebrate the International Year of Astronomy.
Admission is free.
