All,
Anyone observing this weekend...please consider the small and faint galaxies NGC-1 and NGC-16 in Pegasus.
They are not terribly exciting, but to see both of them in a single FOV will be quite an accomplishment.
I did a sketch with my 10-inch back in November of '97 of both within a 1/2° field at 114x.
I did not have a lot of problems seeing the brighter and larger NGC-16, but NGC-1 was most difficult. It was after many attempts over several years that I could finally see the smaller and fainter of the two. I have always wondered what the view would have presented at a dark site? I was observing from my backyard.
The two faint galaxies might be very bright and exciting from Death Valley? I would sure love to compare some notes.
As Tom Lorenzin said in 1000+ regarding NGC-1 "12.8 mag; 1.5' x 1' extent; very faint and difficult; remarkable only for its NGC number; about 1.5° S and little W of Alpha AND; 20' W of EL GAL NGC-16."
My notes were fairly brief. NGC-1: Very faint, elongated, NE-SW elongation with a more concentrated and brighter middle.
NGC-16: Faint, round, bright almost stellar nucleus.
