[LVAS] Observing Report From N C

Not looking like I'm going to bother. Latest clear sky clock is predicting 20+ MPH winds. They may be dying down later, just about the time I usually pack up.

At my house here on the east side, it's knocking things around pretty hard.

Same at the air show out at Nellis.

Unless someone knows something different...

Fred

Subject: [LVAS] Observing Report From N C

All,

After three days of rain (3.6-inches) and 40 MPH winds we had a beautiful day yesterday.

I set up in my backyard and observed last night. The rain and the wind seems to clear the air and I cannot recall a better view of NGC-891.

I was able to measure a full 10 arc minutes in length and could easily see the 13th magnitude star on the SSW. I could also see the 13th magnitude star just N of the core, also with ease, as well as several other faint stars that I have not identified as of yet.

I noticed a subtle brightness in the central region that I had never seen before. I was using my 10-inch reflector. I could easily see the galaxy at 57x but did my sketch using a 16mm UO Konig and a Celestron 2X barlow for a magnification of 142x.

I plan to observe again tonight, and left my mount set-up and just covered. I hope that your skies are as good tonight.
