Ryan,

I was sure glad to show it to you! Will you be able to go out again this Saturday? I'm still thinking Redstone as I have a feeling Sawmill isn't going to be much better this upcoming weekend either.

Would love to show you some more stuff too!

Fred

Rob,

Though I didn't leave empty-handed, Sawmill pretty much sucked. The icy wind was very annoying, and the skyglow was so bad, I couln't even see my laser pointer until almost 10PM. I did manage to get a few Herschels, and I saw the propeller in M-13!

I started with 70X and M-13 was just a fuzz ball with a few individual stars and the spider arms, which are not the same as the propeller. Then I cranked it up to 140X and saw the propeller flashing in and out. When I cranked it up to 203X, I saw the propeller better but had trouble keeping it in the field because of the gusty winds, blurring in and out of focus, and my eye watering. However, I had another guy look and asked him to tell me what he saw, and he saw the propeller too, right when I did. I knocked it back down to 140X and had no trouble seeing it from then on, though it was still a bit erratic.

I also logged the Leo Trio again, but the wind was blowing right down the tube at that angle. I managed to see a bit of a twist in that edge-on and hope to do a better drawing in the next few days.

Anyway, it wasn't a totally wasted night, but I wish I'd gone to Redstone.

Fred
