[Lvas] Boulder City 'sky watch' for middle school students tomorrow night May 15

Folks,

It looks like there will be an enthusiastic crowd tomorrow night May 15 for a middle school science outreach at Hemenway Park in Boulder City, NV; this park has a view of Lake Mead, and it's the park where desert bighorns come down from the River Mountains to graze in summer.

The details are on the LVAS website.

You'll be welcome if bringing a telescope to share views for this 8:00 - 9:30 event. I'll be there setting up by 7:30.

PS, we'll take a look for the M-13 'propeller' before we close up...

Thanks! Jay Piper

Re: Equatorial Mount

Paul Webb of SC is a dealer of used astronomical equipment. His e-mail address is pdwebb53 at sc.rr.com ... this is not close to LV, but thought I would forward your e-mail anyhow.

Paul has his picture on the LVAS observers challenge, contributor list, standing beside a C-14 SC scope.

David, I remember those ES mounts very well. Unfortunately I had the light duty that came on the 4 1/4 reflector. Was this the mount that came with their massive 8-inch reflector with the bake light tubing? I would love to see a picture of this mount...after all these years.

We are talking the mid 70's, before they came out with those futuristic red scopes with the suspension wires, and yoke mounts.

Roger

Dave,

That is a killer site! That explains a lot for this area. Thanks for finding it.

LVAS all,

Jim Dire sent me this e-mail earlier today. Very good articles, and I thought that all of the LV AP's might find it especially beneficial.
