Rob,

I sent your image out to all individually. Do you want or need the other parts that were sent to the forum, regarding N-2403?

Rob, excellent idea to put on the site. It could very well be information that could be used for publication in part or total by both S&T and Astronomy. They need a constant stream of information concerning deep-sky objects and observational topics.

I was going to wait until today before forwarded to all of the recipients of the "Observers Challenge", to review the LVAS website. This may supercede my need to forward in the future, but advise went the report is posted.

I will send my report to Dennis di Cicco this week concerning the Virgo Diamond. I wanted to also mention our "Observers Challenge" but didn't want to overload him with other information.

Now, I can suggest to Dennis that he go to the LVAS site for more information concerning our efforts to present an observers challenge each month. This could be a good thing as future articles in Sky & Telescope could very much come from the LVAS site. Occassionally I will send him a sketch or other and "jog" his memory to look at the LVAS site.

It is my opinion that they could really use this type of information. Sky & Telescope would ask for permission only and a writers fee would waived. I understand from a former editor that the bugets are very tight at both S&T and Astronomy at current. We have all noticed how small the magazines have become.

I really believe that our "OC" information is very good and informative. Remember David Eicher started "Deep-Sky" magazine from a very similar format many years ago and eventially had 10,000 readers. This was before the days of the internet. Each copy was hand mailed. Each monthly report came in an envelope with a stamp.

I think that Astronomy bought the rights to the now "defunct" magazine, primaritly for the reader base and David Eicher is now their editor. I think my facts are correct, but if anyone knows better, please advise.

At current our readers of the "Obsevers Challenge" covers quite a few states with several hundred readers. Next week, all will be advised to go the LV site. Our list of states will hopefully continue to grow.

Next month I will begin sending to some of my observing friends in New York, and ask for their forwarding and suggest that they read the information on the forum.

I want to also send an e-mail to Eicher this week advising him of the "Challenge"

It is my opinion that we have excellent tallent both here and in LV. We can write information in the "Monthly Observers Challenge" that can rival anything currently being written by either magazine.

Our Monthly report has much potential.

Roger,

Here's an image of NGC 2403. I'll try to get a larger view and provide you an observation description for next month's project.

Take care,

Rob
