[Lvas] Crab Nebula

All,
Despite a sliver of moon and the skyglow of Las Vegas, I got a gander at the Crab Nebula. Roger had asked me to look for the stars embedded in it and I gave it the old college try.
I used 70X and 140X to try and bring out those faint stars. However, all I saw was one star at the edge of the nebula.
The Crab wasn't at it's best. It was barely there even in my 16". Magnification didn't help it and the classic "S" shape was missing. It looked more round last night.
I never tried an O-3 filter, but I wasn't going for the nebula so much as those faint stars and the O-3 would just block them out anyway, especially if they are faint ones.
That one star at the edge winked in and out of view, even at 140X. I just think if it were further to the east and out of the skyglow, I might have been able to see it much better.
I'll try again next year.
Here is a very poor drawing I did of it.
Fred
