LVAS all,
I just wanted to share with you my notes for "only" the past 16 years. I am so sorry that I was not taking notes and sketching when I first found M-81 and 82 back in the mid 70's.
I wish that I had some observing notes in 1963 when I was ten years old attempting to find something in the sky using my brothers 60mm EQ refractor.
As all of you have probably noticed I encourage notes and sketching.
The bag on the floor is what I take with me on all observing sessions. It has drawing pencils, pencil trimmers, erasers, note cards, clip boards...just too much to list.
I never thought much about the note cards, journals, sketches until others came into my house and said...wow.
One alumni from a leading research university here in NC came to visit me one day. He is not an amateur astronomer, just a good friend. He was impressed and wanted to know if I had made provisions for my works in my will...I couldn't believe it. It took me a few minutes to understand what he was talking about.
A University Professor...no not from Boiling Springs. He really appreciates my works and has asked if I would be willing to donate my notes to his college. Again, I was amazed that someone saw worth in my notes.
It has happened several other times when I would show my stuff to others. I am now enjoying the looks on their faces when they start "thumbing" through my books, sketches and other.
Well here goes...it is probably going to make many of you mad, but hey I love to create controversy.
What kind of legacy in amateur astronomy do you hope to leave?
Will research institutions want your image files and your beautiful glossies to show "one mans" lifelong works in digital astronomy?
Ok, guys throw it at me...I was an Industrial Engineer for over 30 years. I was the most disliked person in all the plants I worked at. Why? Because of what my job required. I did it well but didn't like it one bit. It just happened to be my job. Why me?
I can take it...how about at least 50 responses to this e-mail. Don't "sulk" lets here it.
An observer, friend and member of the LVAS...
Also a picture of my wife' birthday...just wanted to share it also.

I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heavens and say there is no God. Abraham Lincoln
