Found a most interesting photo of M-2. This is the first image that I have seen that shows the curving dark lane that was mentioned by John Mallas, "The Messier Album" using a 4-inch Unitron refractor. This
The following link presents an image from a 20-inch Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrain telescope.
Also on the site, a description from: "The Deep-Sky Field Guide To Uranmetria 2000", Willmann-Bell, Inc. Visual observers may be able to detect a curving dark lane in the NE sector.
The visual discription is only the second after the "Messier Album".
I have also attached a sketch of the Mallas sketch.
Pretty amazing.
