Shawn,

Good deal. Hope you can get your money back for that other unit.

I hope so, I purchased a Duracell battery pack at Target, and an adapter at Radio Shack. Hopefully those do the trick, but the skies are so bad I haven't dared take everything out to try it.

Shawn,

Did you ever get your battery pack problem solved? I'm hoping you did. If you are still having problems, don't hesitate to ask.

This goes for anyone else out there. If you are having a mechanical or optical problem, don't hesitate to ask. I have 40+ years of telescope making knowledge, and if it is something to do with drives or astrophotography equipment, there should be plenty of others who could help you with that.

I will double check the literature. What about powering the mount without the pack? Is there a way to plug the mount into a power outlet directly?

What do you mean by "...it will not charge."?

These packs are pretty foolproof. The ones I have, have a built-in charger with standard AC male plug. You just take an normal extension cord (with female plug) and connect it to the battery pack. A little light comes on and indicates it is charging, and there is some indication when it is done.

I have seen some packs like this that have a 12v AC adapter that is used instead of a normal power cord.

I hate to ask, but did you read and follow the directions for the battery pack?

Thanks for the prompt reply!

This is the mount:
http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/swtinc/product.php?id=122&class1=3&class2=304

I purchased this to power it:
http://www.celestron.com/c3/product.php?ProdID=371

But when I try to charge the Power Tank, it will not charge. So I am left with nothing to plug my mount into. What I'm trying to determine is if there is some way to get it to work without that, and without plugging it into my car. So you are saying I can buy an adapter called "12-volt DC - 2A (tip positive)" that I can use to plug it directly into an outlet?

Let me know if I am understanding correctly.

Assuming the EQ5 you are talking about is the Orion Skywatcher EQ5,

the features list on the website says it needs 12-volt DC - 2A (tip

positive). You can buy AC/DC adapters of this power level.

I don't quite understand the whole "...battery pack won't charge..."

thing. Sounds like you've got a connection backward or something.
