LVAS all,
Steve Davis of NC sent some excellent images from the Mount Mitchell overlook a few days ago. I especially enjoyed seeing the galaxy group NGC-4631,4627,4656,4657.
I would like to share a sketch with the image that Steve made using a 130 AP refractor. My sketch was made using my 10-inch reflector with a 20mm University Optics Erfle eyepiece with an apparent field of 60°. The sketch has an approximate FOV of slightly over 1°.
The 20mm eyepiece that I used is one of my favorites as it gives me a 1.1° field at 57x. I purchased this eyepiece 18 years ago from University Optics for $59.95. It has four fully multi-coated elements, and was made in Japan...very high quality. I have never owned an expensive eyepiece, by choice. I have the complete set of UO Konigs but unfortunately they are no longer available. At one time the UO Konigs were the research eyepiece of choice by many observatories and top professionals.
North is up on my sketch. N-4631 is the largest galaxy at the top with N-4627 sitting almost on top. N-4656 and N-4657 are at the bottom.
Enjoy...Roger Ivester
