All,

Well, for what didn't look like a good night, it turned out pretty decent. Got to Redstone and though a tad of wind was still blowing, it died by dark. The clouds that had threatened us slipped by and at least to the southeast, it was clear all evening. The seeing wasn't all that great as Saturn blurred in and out of focus in my 16", a little less in the 12" and 8" set up next to me. The transparency wasn't all that great either with the sky backgrounds dark, but with a hint of gray. Despite all that, I saw galaxies into the high 13th magnitudes.

I found 20 new galaxies and 16 of them were Hershel 2's, all in the Leo/Virgo area.

Overall, it was a great night and if I hadn't had that migraine kick in again, I might have stayed a while longer.

Redstone isn't for everybody, but for me, it's the perfect compromise between driving forever, and being under a light dome, at least in the winter time. Sawmill Trailhead is getting closer to reality now.

I'll report individually on the observing goal objects.

Fred
