Roger,
I speak about my drawings tongue in cheek. I know what they are, and I'm still happy with them.
I'm also enjoying sharing my notes as nobody has ever cared abotu them but me, until now.

Fred,
Just having a little fun. Since I am not tortured daily at a manufacturing plant I have really lightened up. I am now a real fun guy...
I am certainly enjoying sharing my 5,000 hours of notes, and sketches...finally.
Fred, do not speak negatively about your sketching. Draw what you see, thats it. I am going to be waiting anxiously until someone sends a report, Subject ... "I found it".
Maybe we should have a label pin made with the diamond of stars and the words "Virgo Diamond" around it.
This would be an awards pin...something like the AL Messier.

Roger,
Maybe I can send you a sketch of your sketch! It would be my usual crummy ink pen stuff, but hey, that's what I do!
I'm not really as much worried about finding it as I am the weather. This time of year is notoriously unstable. I will probably have better luck in June when we start going up Lee Canyon and the sky will be dark to the southeast. Just don't want to wait that long.
Would be honored to have one of your sketches!

Fred,
If you are successful I will send to you a limited edition numbered "Virgo Diamond" sketch. There will be less than 10 if that many. Dennis di Cicco has the number one from the original.
It actually takes me a couple of hours to do one. First I have to cut the cardstock, then paint the Carolina blue matting, then sketch the stars in the proper orientation. It is difficult to get the stars perfectly round with a charcoal pencil. It is even more difficult to replicate the magnitudes of the stars relative to each other.
I could easily do a sketch of the "Virgo Cluster" much easier. You would not think it would be so difficult to draw four stars?
What do I get if you fail...again???
Fred, I'm smiling as i write this.
Your friend...Roger

John, Roger, and all,
Despite making several mirrors which include some algebraic formulas, I always thought setting circles were too complicated math-wise. The reality of it is that it isn't near as difficult as I made it out to be. Never ended up with a mount that had them until a few years ago when I inherited a Meade 60mm refractor on an equatorial from my wife's uncle. After 40+ years observing, I'm just so used to finding things manually that I can't see learning how to use circles. Besides, that would involve an equatorial mount, which I don't have for the Dob.
However, I think it's admirable that you two can use them in lieu of a GOTO, which seems to be the in thing, especially with newbies that don't know the sky, or those that just don't want to bother with finding stuff.
On the 25th, weather permitting, I'm going to nail the Virgo Diamond manually, with just my green laser and a star chart. Well... that's the plan!

John,
I'm sorry that I said GM-11. I am certainly familiar with your Losmandy G-11 mount.
I was never so happy as when I lived in a very light polluted neighborhood back in the 70's and learned how to use my manual circles on my ES 4-1/4 inch reflector. I thought that I had conquered the world. I would observe within 100 foot of the brightest street light that you have ever seen.
I could still see some of the brighter messier objects. Star hopping was almost impossible.
