[Lvas] Something to contemplate

Just received a new Orion catalog and noticed one thing immediately. They now appear to have discontinued their last eyepiece that was made in Japan.

 

The Orion ultrascoptic is not listed in this catalog. I remember when TV Naglers were made in Japan also...now Taiwan. Is this correct?

 

My old Meade DS-10A was made in the original Meade factory in Costa Mesa California. The mirror is superb, the blank, polishing, all materials, which include the optical tube, mount, and all castings were made in the USA. The sonotube is 1/4-inch thick, heavy duty with excellent insulating properties...not rolled cardboard.

 

The only parts not made in America was the finder and focuser which were made in Japan. It is still in "like new" condition and I would not sell it for twice what I gave for it. Very few people would be interested in having this wonderful scope. It has shown me 14th magnitude galaxies and has allowed me to observe nearly 2,000 hours at the eyepiece.

 

In ten years what will be manufactured in America?
