Fred,
You made an excellent point.
Jim's image is almost absent of the two prominent bright stars that of which is seen immediately upon a visual observation. I recognized this when I first saw the image.
Rob's image does show a much more "realistic" view as to what you can see with your eyes. I have observed this galaxy at least 25 times or more on various occasions.
This is an excellent galaxy for observation with a small scope also. My 4-inch Vixen refractor presents an image that would even surprise you Fred. A velvet background, with high contrast even in the edges of the halo.

All,
Jim's image shows a lot more detail than what I could see visually. It is a beautiful image, but not representative of what's in the eyepiece. Your drawing, Roger is much closer as well as Rob's Mallincam shot. However, with Jim's image, we can see more of what's really there.

Please see the attachments of NGC-2403.
The image is from Dr. Jim Dire of Gardner-Webb University and the sketch is a rather old one from me. I have a new one.
With all the extra work that I am doing on the "Virgo Diamond" I just have not had time to get it into a presentation form.
I am also going to re-submit Rob Lamberts image of this galaxy using his Mallincam.
I will have the notes and descriptions "Part 2" as soon as possible.
Best regards, roger
