Fred,
Those of us that went to Death Valley had a great time. Two nights of
gorgeous weather and skies. The Milky Way stretched from horizon to
horizon. Got familiar with my LX200 and the Mallincam. It does pretty
amazing things with objects that you normally only see as smears in a
10-inch. I've never seen the central star in M57 even with John Heller's
25-inch Obsession. That is until this weekend. The Mallincam was able to
pull out the central star with only a 2-second integration. That's pretty
good for near live viewing. I think I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this
video assisted observation. I'm able to see depth and detail that I would
normally not be able to see. And it's great for public viewing. At one
time, I had 15 people sitting between my truck and the next one down,
looking at whatever I was placing in the FOV. I think the Sculptor galaxy
really wowed them with the color and the knots of gas and dust that were
visible. I think it I am going to tremendously enjoy observing even more
than I was previously.
So, we too, had a great weekend. Looking forward to going out to Redstone
maybe the 22nd of this month.
Take care.
