[Lvas] New Orion Truss dob

Rob,

Though it's probably made in the same factory in Taiwan that makes the LightBridges, it seems to have some improvements in design. The eight pole truss is one. Another is the 50mm finder. Finally, the teflon altitude bearings are a plus. On my LightBridge, though the azimuth bearings are ball and teflon, the altitude bearings are felt on aluminum. Unless you have the scope weighted down, those aluminum on felt bearings are dodgy at best. Once I added a counterweight and a 50mm finder, plus my heavy 2" eyepeices, it is smooth as silk, almost.

Looks like a good deal, except, like you say, no 16". Also the bottom truss locks look kind of clunky and stick out a lot. Otherwise, sounds like a good deal. Of course, me being old school, I could care less about the computer capability.

Fred

Guys,Have you seen the new Orion Truss Intelliscope? Great looking scope, but it ain't a 16-incher. The teaser ad took me in - I was ready to buy what I thought would be a 16-inch Truss Intelliscope, but it wasn't to be. I've asked Orion again if they are going to release a 16-incher. We'll have to see. Anyway, here's the catalog page for the 12-inch XX12. Tell me what you think.12-inch Truss Intelliscopehttp://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=09793Rob
